Overview
A London-based fashion designer approached me to create a unique logo and a series of illustrations to represent her developing brand. The aim was to capture her personality and design aesthetic, with visuals that reflected the lightness and elegance of her work. These designs would be used across her marketing materials, including cards and stationery, as she prepares to launch her brand in the future.
Objective
The objective was to design a logo that encapsulated the essence of the designer's personality and fashion creations. In addition, the custom illustrations would reflect her free-flowing, creative spirit and serve as a strong visual foundation for her brand identity.
Design Process
1. Hand-drawn illustrations: I began with hand-drawn illustrations using black ink and pencil. These initial sketches captured the essence of floating fabrics, whimsical designs, and the strong visual personality the designer wanted to convey. Once finalised, I digitised the drawings using Adobe Illustrator, where I refined the details and introduced a black and gold colour scheme for the final versions.
2. Logo design: The logo was designed to reflect the designer’s creative personality and the elegance of her work with fabric. The flowing "D" and "F" in the logo were crafted to evoke the feeling of fabric in motion, symbolising how her designs are free, light, and graceful. The concept of the "D" taking the "F" for a walk represents the way her designs elegantly guide the wearer, highlighting the relationship between movement and fashion.
3. Application of the design: The designer was really pleased with the final designs, which were incorporated into her branding and marketing materials. Although she is still in the process of developing her brand, the logo and illustrations will form a key part of her future identity, and have already been used for:
4. Cards and stationery: Featuring the black-and-gold logo and illustrations, giving her initial marketing materials a professional and cohesive look.
5. Promotional items: The designer plans to extend the use of the logo and illustrations to various promotional materials, aligning them with her future fashion collections.
6. Brand identity: The illustrations provide a strong visual identity for the designer’s brand, setting the stage for a future online presence and ensuring her brand will stand out in a competitive industry once it launches.
Challenges
The main challenge was ensuring that the hand-drawn illustrations translated smoothly into digital format while retaining their fluidity and personality. Additionally, the logo needed to capture both elegance and playfulness, mirroring the designer’s unique approach to fashion.
Results
The designer was thrilled with both the logo and the illustrations. The designs successfully captured her personality and provided a strong visual foundation for her brand’s identity, which will be instrumental when she officially launches her fashion label. The artwork has been featured on her stationery and will serve as the cornerstone of her marketing efforts as she progresses in her career.
